Greece in International Organizations

The number and the importance of international organizations in today's world is constantly increasing.  Their role, whether it is political or economic, becomes more and more essential and their field of competence expands every day.  This is due to the phenomenon of globalization.  There are present-day problems that can no longer be resolved within the borders of a single country.  There are also opportunities for cooperation in the economic and commercial field on a global level, involving countries as well as people.

Greece is a member of a large number of international organizations in addition to the European Union. Some are of a global character (United Nations, World Health Organization, UNESCO), while others of regional scope (NATO, BSEC).  Some are political (Council of Europe, OSCE), some economic (World Bank, IMF, OECD), humanitarian (UNICEF) or of a specialized field of competence (International Labour Organization, FAO).

Through its participation in international organizations, Greece is striving to achieve the goals of Greek foreign policy, namely peace, respect for International Law, human rights and development of international relations in all fields.
