Bilateral relations
Introduction
Greece established diplomatic relations with Belarus in 1992. The Greek Embassy in Minsk stopped operating in December 2002, for budgetary reasons. At present, the Greek Embassy in Moscow has a parallel accreditation to Belarus. The Belarusian Ambassador to Bulgaria is also accredited in Athens. A small Greek community of 750 members resides in Belarus.
Political Relations
Bilateral relations are good. It should be noted, however, that bilateral ministerial contacts are regulated by the EU Council Conclusions of September 1997 (General Affairs Council).
Economic relations
Trade and economic relations remain at a low level, and Greek business activity in Belarus is limited.
Contractual framework
Greece and Belarus have signed an Agreement on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations and a Protocol for the Cooperation of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
