Greece traditionally maintains good and friendly relations with Arab and Middle East countries, Iran and Iraq, due to its geographical proximity, economic cooperation and strong historical and cultural bonds, dating back to ancient times. Greece is called upon to play an important role in promoting peace and stability in the region, by undertaking conflict prevention initiatives as well as actively participating in the elaboration and planning of the common foreign policy of the European Union.
